Landscaping & Feature Lawns
The tropics are characterized not by hot weather as many people think, but rather by long cloudy, humid periods which make sun loving couches unsuitable for most situations. .............................................................................................................................
Centipede grass - (variety ET-19) is another tropical grass that competes well, is relatively low in mowing and fertilizer requirement, having a leaf width of about 1/3 that of Buffalo. It is not suited to dry soils or shaded areas. Tropika blue couch - similiar to QLD blue, it is wider-leafed, stronger and more dense and has a very attractive blue/green colour. Not suited to shade, it is the best choice on coastal sands, and is also a good choice in full sun on clayey soils, preferably after adding a well drained topsoil. Plateau couch - green couches are generally unsuitable for home lawns because of the cloud cover and much higher maintenance usually associated with them. Plateau is a brilliant exception to this because of its low habit, low nutrient requirement and its shade tolerance of 40%. Mowing frequency is about 1/4 of any other green couch types, colour and appearence make for a great feature lawn.
Emerald Zoysia and Zoysia species - These are fine leafed dark green tropical grasses, slow growing and extremely shade tolerant (up to 90%). Excellent for feature areas where mowing is difficult, as they require little or infrequent maintainence. |
